Baked Pear & Apple Oatmeal Crumble

Happy Daylight Savings! Even though we lose an hour, our bodies can slowly adjust during the first few days.  I feel more energy as the days grow a bit longer and you can feel the spring/summer weather around the corner! It’s almost time to get outside and soak up some Vitamin D on a walk or run in the park.

Sundays always feel like a catch up day– whether there’s groceries, laundry, cooking or just a bit of relaxation, the day seems to fly by! For this Sunday evening, no matter what you’ve done during the day, enjoy a fun dessert that warms your soul and tummy!

Ingredients:

2 apples

2 pears

3/4 cup of oatmeal

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1 Tsp cinnamon

1 Tsp nutmeg

3 Tbsp maple syrup

2 Tbsp of butter

1/3 cup of water

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease an 8″x 8″ square pan.

pear and apple oatmeal crumble

Remove the core and seeds of the apples and pear. Feel free to also just slice the apples and pears into half moon shapes or however you’d like.  In a mixing bowl, combine the oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Evenly distribute the mixture over top of the apples and pears in the pan.  Add slices of the cold butter across the topping.  drizzle the maple syrup and water.  The maple syrup and water will create a sauce once the apples and pears begin to bake in the oven.  Place the pan into the oven and bake for about 35 minutes or until the topping becomes golden brown and the apple and pear slices are soft.  Feel free to add your favorite walnuts or even a few dried cranberries on top.  Add a side of fresh whipped cream and enjoy this simple dessert for your Sunday night!
